  2.  The acpi addon won't use the kernel acpi events interface but the acpid's
  3.  event  socket if acpid is installed. If acpid is removed, hal needs to be
  4.  restarted to enable monitoring of acpi events again. And if apci is installed,
  5.  hal needs a restart to free the kernels acpi events interface for acpid.

  8.  Some CD and DVD drives, such as the GDR8162B model found in some Dell 
  9.  laptops, do not correctly handle media status inquiries and incorrectly
  10.  spin up the drive when they should not.  Since hal regularly polls CD
  11.  drives for media changes, this results in increased power consumption and
  12.  mechanical wear and tear on such drives, which remain spinning constantly
  13.  while hal is running.

  15.  If you have a CD/DVD drive exhibiting this problem, you can copy
  16.  /usr/share/doc/hal/examples/no-cd-media-check.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/ to
  17.  disable media checks for your drive.  This file disables media checks for
  18.  all CD drives on the system, and also includes an example config for
  19.  disabling media checks only on a specific drive.
